BackstoryThough Dr. Alphys removed most of Mettaton’s human-eradication programming; she couldn’t bring herself to eliminate the abilities themselves. From these dormant powers, Mettaton NEO was born, crafted piece by piece with the Underground’s most advanced technology. Mettaton never needed it, believing peace had been secured after the barrier’s fall. That is, until the rise of Bête Noire.Days into her reign of terror, Mettaton is left battered and outmatched. That is, until his producer, Isabelle, throws him a lifeline: the NEO briefcase. While Alphys deeply trusted Mettaton, she knew it was unwise to let a robot transform into a death machine at will. So, she locked his NEO form behind a trigger, a precise chemical reaction using rare Underground compounds. When combined, they produce a flash of bright smoke and instantly activate the transformation.The briefcase contains those separated chemicals. Once broken open, Mettaton NEO is unleashed.

AbilitiesWhile NEO is renowned for its high defense, it's less celebrated for combat; Mettaton, after all, isn’t an experienced fighter. Still, the mech packs serious power: bright sabers, projectile legs, and a super blaster set the stage for an all-out anime-style battle.Though his arms no longer extend, he retains all abilities from his EX form. Most notably, Mettaton NEO can fly, giving him a major edge in evading attacks. However, this flashy power comes at a cost: NEO’s energy drains fast, and Mettaton must constantly manage his battery to stay in the fight.

He can also deploy “T-Bombs,” explosive devices that emit searing rays of light in four directions.Beyond combat, Mettaton is a skilled dancer, using the Arena’s disco ball to weaken Betty. When the ball reflects blue light, any movement causes damage; orange light, meanwhile, punishes stillness. In critical moments, Mettaton can unleash his robotic soul to emit a powerful electrical pulse, strong enough to repel even the toughest enemies.

BackstoryCursed to awaken when the barrier between humans and monsters is broken, Bête Noire is an ancient vessel bound by a spell with one purpose: to prevent humans and monsters from living in harmony. She begins her journey by befriending Chara, the ambassador for monsterkind, but their friendship ends when she reveals herself as Bête Noire, bearing the pink soul trait of fear.Over time, she kills numerous monsters, including Dr. Alphys, the engineer behind Mettaton. As her power grows, she unleashes pink magical blobs across the city, harvesting souls and growing more powerful. Her rampage leads to the Arena, where evacuated citizens have gathered. As she prepares to devour the souls of human guards and begin her reign of terror, a new enemy with different plans stands in her way.
AbilitiesBetty enjoys toying with her prey, so it’s fitting that she possesses a wide array of abilities. At this point in the story, her fear blobs have been harvesting magic from human victims, greatly boosting her power and durability in her fight against Mettaton. She can shapeshift, regenerate at will, summon homing torpedoes, and manipulate minds to create illusions.She also has the ability to momentarily take control of magic used against her. Despite her vast powers, she must learn to pace herself in battle; overuse can slow her attacks and extend regeneration time, allowing hate to take over her body. Her weapon of choice is a magic scythe.

OverviewAgate Lightvale, a deceased bravery wizard, manipulates events throughout the story by influencing Bête Noire. As the driving force behind Betty’s assault on both humanity and monsterkind, she believes monsters are unworthy of freedom and seeks to impose control and order over humankind. She is not afraid to let anyone die on her quest for power.
BackstoryAgate’s story begins long before NEO Madness, in the aftermath of the human-monster war that forced monsterkind underground. She once lived in peace with her brother Copper and younger sister Amber until growing tensions sparked conflict. When Copper proposed destroying the Barrier that imprisoned the monsters, Agate strongly opposed him. Their disagreement escalated into a duel, where Copper’s determination magic overpowered Agate’s bravery magic. Defeated and ashamed, Agate fled the battlefield.Her shame soon festered into a desire for vengeance. She performed a forbidden spell, using hatred to invert her soul trait; she transformed bravery into fear. Returning for a rematch, Agate was refused by Copper. Enraged, she struck down Amber, who had unknowingly stumbled upon the confrontation. Struck by grief, Copper lost his determination and was slain by his sister.However, Agate was faced with one last opponent: death. The inversion spell had begun to destroy her soul. In desperation, she used Amber’s body to perform the Bête Noire spell, creating Betty. Though Agate’s body perished, her spirit and ambition lived on in Betty. When the Barrier was finally broken, Agate awakened once more through her creation.

AbilitiesThough Agate is ever-present as Bête Noire, she rarely reveals herself. Only in moments of intense adrenaline does a trace of her human form emerge. In rare, perfectly timed instances, one could even catch a glimpse of her primary weapon: a glowing orange spear.

OverviewThough Amber doesn’t appear directly in NEO Madness, her impact on the story is profound. Killed by her sister, Agate, and used as the vessel for the Bete Noire spell, she became the shell that houses Betty. While she can’t escape Agate’s control, glimpses of Amber’s wit and emotion can still shine through Betty’s hard exterior.

Serving as her rebellious monster sidekick, he carries out smaller tasks during the show. Yet, even under her control, the young prince clings to his own desire: to confront Chara, his childhood best friend.
BackstoryLong ago in the Underground, Asriel Dreemurr was close friends with the fallen human child, Chara, who was welcomed into his family. Peace seemed possible until Chara devised a plan: he would willingly die so Asriel could absorb his soul, allowing them to cross the barrier and collect human souls to break it. But when the time came, Asriel refused to harm anyone. He turned back from the human village, only to be attacked and fatally wounded. Though Chara’s spirit persisted, Asriel faded into dust atop a bed of golden flowers.Years later, Asriel was resurrected as a flower and later became full again with the help of fallen human soul traits. He then helped a newly fallen human free Chara from his hatred; an act with devastating consequences. Though Chara was freed and reached the surface with Asriel, his hatred quickly escaped his body. That hate lived on, eventually falling into the hands of Bête Noire, who used it to seize control of Asriel during a later battle.Now corrupted by the same hatred that once consumed Chara, Asriel follows Betty, driven by vengeance and a promise: that Chara will soon face them both.

He can use Shocker Breaker to strike enemies with lightning, summon magical star-shaped projectiles in his Star Blazing attack, and conjure Chaos Sabers: powerful energy swords formed from thin air.

OverviewIsabelle is Mettaton’s producer and his gateway into the human entertainment industry. She has an eye for rising stars and believes everyone, even monsters, deserves a shot at fame. In NEO Madness, she acts as Mettaton’s right-hand woman, managing the broadcast of his grand show while working behind the scenes to help evacuate citizens to safety.
BackstoryIsabelle grew up on the surface and welcomed the arrival of monsters, believing times had changed. With experience in production, she quickly set her sights on Mettaton, a robot made for television. After signing a contract, the two became close friends and began planning his grand debut.The big day went smoothly until a secondary attack by Bête Noire left several innocent fans wounded. Determined to help restore Mettaton’s reputation, Isabelle agreed to his request to bring NEO Madness to viewers at home. She delivers the special NEO briefcase, giving Mettaton the power to stand against Betty.Throughout the film, Isabelle and her team broadcast the show citywide, letting everyone witness Mettaton’s hour of glamour.

At her side is her loyal companion, her pet, who isn’t shy about snacking on enemies.
BackstoryMuffet’s story begins in the Underground, where she launched a successful bakery with the help of her spiders. While some claimed her wealth fed into greed, it ultimately funded her transition to the surface. Once freed, she quickly opened a bakery; this time without spiders on the register (bad for business!). Her shop thrived among monsters and slowly gained popularity with humans.Next door, however, a rivalry brewed with Grillby, owner of a competing bar. The tension remained until the Bête Noire attack forced both businesses to temporarily shut down. Putting their rivalry aside, Muffet and Grillby joined the city’s defense. Eventually, the two make their way to the Arena, crashing the NEO Madness broadcast to take the spotlight and stand against Betty's brutality.
AbilitiesMuffet possesses unique magical abilities. Though not a skilled fighter, she excels at draining her enemies’ stamina. She can spin webs, puppeteer opponents or allies, and command her pet in battle. Outside of magic, she carries useful items, like a nutritious donut from her bakery or a Molotov cocktail from Grillby’s.

OverviewGrillby is a unique monster who's entirely composed of fire. In NEO Madness, he joins the battle alongside his business rival, Muffet. Despite his somewhat timid nature, the two form an unexpected bond during the fight, even making bets on who can inflict the most damage on Bête Noire.
BackstoryLike Muffet, Grillby started his business in the Underground with his bar, Grillby’s. After monsters moved to the surface, he reopened coincidentally right next to Muffet’s bakery. This sparked a rivalry that was abruptly cut short by Bête Noire’s attack on the city. Putting their differences aside, both helped evacuate citizens and later crashed the NEO Madness broadcast to aid Mettaton and buy time for officials to relocate those in the arena.

AbilitiesGrillby may not have a wide range of abilities, but he can hold his own in a bar fight. He specializes in fire magic, capable of summoning and deflecting flames with steady, sustained blasts. He can also channel his fire to deflect electricity magic. His greatest strength, however, is also his greatest weakness: if his flame is extinguished, he’s left completely vulnerable.

Eventually, the two reconnected when Napstablook called into Mettaton’s show, expressing how much it had helped him.After monsters were freed, they grew close again, with Napstablook agreeing to DJ and produce for Mettaton's big debut. However, when a second-hand attack from Bête Noire violently disrupted the show, Napstablook retreated into isolation. He spent his days lying on the floor, feeling like garbage, until a signal flickered across his old TV: NEO Madness was live.

Chara DreemurrDespite his rough past, Chara is the main protagonist of Undertale: Glitched Universe. As the ambassador for monsterkind and childhood friend of Prince Asriel, he leads monsters through challenges caused by Bête Noire. In NEO Madness, he travels on foot to the Arena, arriving with his parents, Asgore and Toriel Dreemurr, just in time.
Hate Vial by Trisdraws
HATEHate is a corruptive substance in Undertale: Glitched Universe that infects both humans and monsters, manipulating them through past trauma to harm others. It can invert soul traits, such as Agate Lightvale turning bravery into fear, making them more powerful than normal. Hate can only be destroyed by killing its host while it's still inside. If left unchecked, it can evolve into an independent entity, as seen in Descended Scientist and The Last Hope. Hate makes an appearance in NEO Madness through Asriel Dreemurr and Bête Noire.

The Fallen HumanWhile many remember Chara Dreemurr as the last human to fall underground, others recall him as the first, leading to theories of a second, unknown human. Dubbed “the fallen human” by monster historians, there is little evidence of their existence. What is known is that their actions helped resurrect and reunite Chara and Asriel Dreemurr, which contributed to the breaking of the barrier trapping monsterkind.
WD GasterGaster, a skeleton monster in Undertale: Glitched Universe, plays a crucial role despite being minor in NEO Madness. Mettaton and the Dreemurrs keep Bête Noire contained until he arrives, allowing him to eradicate Betty.
